Players placed their bets using mobile apps in the two states. As a result, New York is losing out on revenue opportunities due to the lack of access to the apps. Also, the state missed out on advertising and licensing opportunities that would bring revenue.
NY Turns to Online Sports Betting
According to bookie pay per head reports, Governor Andrew Cuomo rejected legalizing online sports betting because it violated its constitution. Also, Cuomo said that online sports wagering doesn’t fit the description of what’s allowed by New York’s laws.

Senator Addabbo said that online sports betting adheres to the state’s constitution. If the server that accepts the bets is on the land of a licensed casino, it complies with the constitution. Also, it means that online betting will only be allowed within a specific distance from one of the seven authorized gambling locations.
