Senate and House negotiators reached no compromise on the Massachusetts sports betting bill. As a result, Speaker Ron Mariano said there’s no timeline for the legalization process. However, he is hopeful that his colleagues can agree on the bill before the sessions end on July 31.

The speaker said they are far apart in reaching a compromise. Thus, people can’t become a bookie legally in the state before the start of the NFL season. Negotiators for the competing legislation are Senator Michael Rodrigues and Representative Jerald Parisella. Their committees are deliberating the topic in private.

One of the problematic issues is whether they should allow bets on college sports. The House sports betting bill allows betting on college sports. However, the Senate version left the provision out. The speaker said revenues would drop from $60 million to $25 million if the sports betting bill removes college sports.

Still No Compromise on Massachusetts Sports Betting BillSports betting is one of the topics tackled within private committee sessions. Sportsbook PPH experts said it came after the Senate and House approved divergent bills. Committees approved bills on general government bonds and clean energy.

Aside from sports betting, bills on reproductive rights, mental health access, cannabis industry reforms, and military family licensure remained unapproved. According to online bookie software experts, Governor Charlie Baker has the power to veto any bill.

The governor can hang on to the bills the Senate and House send him even after July 31. Thus, the Democratic majority can’t do anything if the governor opposed their version of the bill. Speaker Mariano said they missed the opportunity to pass the sports betting bill before the deadline. Thus, they need to live with the consequences.
