Striking Casino Workers Continue Negotiations with MGM Grand Detroit

Last month, casino employees from three casinos in Detroit launched a strike. They wanted better working conditions, higher wages, reduced workload, and job security. Also, the strike saw thousands of housekeepers, dealers, and other casino workers protest for over a month. On November 19, MotorCity Casino and Hollywood Casino at Greektown employees ended their strike. Thus, only the MGM Grand Detroit has striking casino workers.

Employees at the two casinos had accepted the new contract. It included significant salary increases and other benefits, according to the Detroit Casino Council (DCC), representing the workers at the time.

On Wednesday, allegedly, employees at the MGM Grand submitted a revised proposal to the operator. The union that represents the casino has not yet responded to that idea. Despite ongoing talks, DCC has not disclosed why MGM Grand’s casino staff declined the initial offer that the other two Detroit casinos approved.
