Potential Retirement of Tua Tagovailoa Could Cost the Dolphins $124 Million

There are talks of the potential retirement of Tua Tagovailoa after he suffered his third concussion in two years. Also, it was his fourth concussion in his National Football League career. On Thursday, he collapsed to the turf and showed indications of a brain injury. It happened after the Bills safety, Damar Hamlin, hit him. In the 2022 season, he suffered two brain injuries within a month.

Afterward, Tagovailoa said he discussed the matter with his family to see if he should continue playing football. He returned, nonetheless, to play for the Dolphins.

Many in the bookie PPH industry, current and past NFL players, media analysts, and worried fans and observers have called for him to retire following his most recent injury.

Potential Retirement of Tua Tagovailoa

Potential Retirement of Tua Tagovailoa Could Cost the Dolphins $124 MillionIn the coming days, Tagovailoa will be subjected to the NFL’s concussion procedures. Tagovailoa may get the all-clear from the team’s medical staff and trainers before long. He will have to decide whether to continue playing if this occurs. Another possibility is that physicians will not give him the all-clear to go back. Tagovailoa may be required to resign from the NFL if he fails concussion protocols for the third time throughout his career. According to experts in NFL betting strategies, a significant portion of his $212.4 million deal would be payable to the Dolphins in the event of his retirement.

General manager Chris Grier of the Dolphins inked the deal in July, and it included a guarantee of $167 million. Tagovailoa is eligible to receive the entire $124 million if he is medically forced to retire, even though he has already earned $43 million of that pay. That guaranteed sum, meanwhile, would be his loss if, after receiving clearance to return, he decides to retire nonetheless. In such instances, he and the squad must reach a compromise.

He admittedly contemplated retiring the previous summer and accepted the contract after suffering three concussions. At a team news conference on February 28, nevertheless, Grier stated that the quarterback’s history of concussions was of no concern to him. When asked whether quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s history of concussions influenced the team’s decision to extend his contract, Grier said no. The decision was made months before the deal was ever inked.

Offseason Jiujitsu Training

Grier said the quarterback may overcome his fears about concussions by participating in jiujitsu training throughout the offseason. Mike McDaniel, head coach of the Miami Dolphins, stated that he and the club felt comfortable with jiujitsu to minimize concussions in their quarterback.

While the 2023 season was in progress, Tagovailoa began training with jiujitsu master Ricardo Liborio. To avoid a severe head injury, he had to learn to regulate his body’s motions as he fell to the ground.

The primary goal of the martial art known as jiujitsu is self-defense. But it all started in Brazil as a spin on judoka, a martial art from Japan. Not even getting tackled by a gang of NFL players is considered.

While the 200-pound Hamlin tackled Tagovailoa alone, his jiujitsu skills had little impact. While rushing forward to gain yards, Tagovailoa hurt himself when his head slammed into Hamlin’s torso. Neurologists call Tagovailoa’s paralysis of the arms the “fencing response,” and it’s a symptom of brain damage.

The league’s concussion protocol now gives Tagovailoa 10 days to clear. If he does not pass protocol within the next ten days, he could be put on injured reserve, preventing him from playing in four games. Because of this, the front office may begin planning to part ways with their star quarterback and, maybe, with that $124 million.
