Chinese basketball legend Yao Ming stepped down as chairman of the Chinese Basketball Association Management Company. It is the business arm of the CBA. Also, Yao led the efforts to commercialize the league since taking on the job in 2017.
The CBA thanked Yao for his years of service. However, there was no explanation for why he stepped down from the chairmanship. Yao was one of the first athletes from China who became a household name across the globe. According to sportsbook pay per head sources, the Houston Rockets drafted him as the top pick in 2002. Also, he spent eight seasons with the Rockets before he retired in 2011 due to chronic injuries.
